Hope youre' having fun at your college orientation at the University of Texas! Let's just say, it's been quite a while since I went through such a thing. You're probably meeting lots of cool people(pretty girls), lol.. and thats justs taste of whats to come. There will be some classes to attend and some studying to be done, but don't let that put a damper on your day! Take in the scenery and enjoy the ride while it lasts, because trust me.. this whole part of your life will be over in the blink in the eye if you don't take the time to appreciate it. Work hard and play hard, Seth-- my friend, you only get to do this once in a lifetime. I just wanted to wish you the best with your orientation and a speedy and safe return home and to the site. Take care of yourself and see you in a few days. -Melis

I've just returned from my orientation. I will be starting classes on August 29. Japanese classes are still going to be hectic to get into the right ones. I feel like I should be able to get out of all language learning classes. What I want is electives and or literature classes taught in the language. Whether that will happen until I get to go to Japan next year is uncertain. The head of Japanese, Naoko Suitou, seems really nice. However, I still don't think she quite understands who she is dealing with yet. That's fine because we won't be able to meet until school starts because she's over seas. I didn't appreciate a few exchanges where she gave the definition of いっぱい. It turned me off as this was almost insulting. I don't know how much she has apparently seen on the site, but it looks like very little. I deserve the respect for them to at lest thoroughly look through my hard work. I really want to be active in college in the Japanese department, and I really hope that these professors that I will have contact with will have the grace and dignity to be open and inspirational. I am going to have to go by policy and take a dreaded placement test. I am going to prepare for it, I have a month, so I don't make any frivolous errors due to stress. Anyways, I shall begin working again on the update project shortly.
